I’m glad the Google Earth tour worked well. It was the first time I used it with a group, and with it you were able to see all of the places we’ll visit together and others students’ll have the opportunity to vist on their own if they wish.

I encourage you to read through the application booklet thorroughly; it contains key information on inclusions, booking conditions, accreditation (which one dad asked about), and a timeline for payment and tour preparation.

Remember that the program fee is valid only until the end of this month. In October the fee will increase $200. To sign-up go to the Current Tour page and follow the links to enroll.

We’ll cover details of the thirty-one day European Panorama I’ll be leading from late-May to late-June 2009 that’ll take us from London to Paris, through Brussels to Amsterdam, through Heidelberg to Lucerne, to Munich and Salzburg, through Innsbruck to Venice, then Florence to Rome, to Sorrento and Pompeii, to Meteora through Delphi then Athens, then the islands of Mykonos and Patmos and Rhodes , and finally Kusadasi, Turkey.

Please contact me if you plan on attending so I can prepare enough material for everyone. I’ll hold a drawing for a chance for students to win a couple of special prizes, and you can meet my beautiful bride and children, too!

Even if we able to enjoy the races, we’d probably have to go beverage- and pasta-free because of the recent ban on snacks and things at the city’s popular attractions: “Cappucci-No: Rome bans snacks at tourist sites”. Although the ban ends in October this year, it’ll probably be instituted next year during our time in the area.

The time we spent in Rome in 2005 was one of the best days on tour. The California contingent we were traveling with wanted to go back to our hotel in the middle of the afternoon before we’d seen everything we could, so Team AZ took off on our own.

While the rest of the tour was resting and checking their email on the hotel computers and complaining of the heat, we returned to the Colosseum and then made our way to the National Monument, the Pantheon, Piazza Navona, the Spanish Steps, and the Trevi Fountain armed with only a map and fueled by lots of gelato.

We tramped all over Rome from about 3:00 until we met the California travelers at the Spanish Steps that evening; our Tour Director Margherita had arranged a bus tour of the city at night so we could witness the capital lighted-up which was a great way to end the day.

Of course we are going to spending some time airports as we make our way to our destinations and back so this list of ideas might be appropriate: Since we’ll be spending some time in airports as we make our way to our destinations next year, I thought this might be appropriate:“How to Entertain Yourself in an Airport”.

If after our tour, you decide to return to Europe or you get the travel-bug and decide to see what else the world has to offer, you might try an alternative to flight: “How to Travel by Cargo Ship Properties”.
