Cities at Night

By Mr. Girard | January 4, 2009

Happy New Year travelers! With 141 days to go before we leave for thirty-one days and the trip of a lifetime, I thought I’d share a couple of items with you.

I’ve mentioned to some of you informally and at some of our information meetings that there’s something magical about seeing the Eiffel Tower begin to flicker and glitter with lights at night as the sun disappears over Paris, but in an effort to be green the city is reducing its carbon-footprint by limiting the spectacle: “Eiffel Tower’s lights are to go out”.

We can be grateful that the lights aren’t going out altogether; they’re just being curbed a bit. Check out some photos of the Eiffel Tower at Paris-Photos.org.

And here’s a shot of nighttime London looking South from above from the Boston Globe’s Big Picture. If you know the landmarks, you can identify the houses of Parliament and Big Ben, Waterloo Bridge and Station, and the Millennium Wheel.

I hope we’ll get to fly in the Wheel our last night in London. Talk about beautiful. Find bigger, more amazing pictures at “London from above, at night”.
